Market Hall

This building, at the junction of West street and South street was built c.1551-52 with an open ground floor to provide covered space for market stalls.
There have been many changes made over time and the hall has had a number of uses.
This includes as a hotel, shops, cafe even as a 'Labour Exchange'.
In the 1670s the lofts of this building were the first Grammar School.
It is now part of the Spread Eagle Hotel.
